The company is Universal Remote Control. The remote is a long considered standard amongst Home Theater installers. While other remotes offer touchscreen button controls, bigger color screens, and internet connections for code databases, the MX-500 keeps it simple. This is far from a bad thing since that's what a remote should be.
First, we would like to dispel the initial impression that this is remote is big. While it is about 9 inches long, the design itself is wonderful in the hand. The remote tapers toward the end and has an ergonomic shape which is balanced by the weight of the LCD and the batteries which sit at the opposite end. One handed operation is simple and painless.
The MX-500 controls you're components in one of two ways. It will use a device code resident in it's database or it will learn it directly from the device itself. The labels on the LCD next to the buttons can be specified by the user to represent your equipment as well as to label an operation that would be specific to a device. You can also program the remote to perform macros, stringing together various operations with one press of the button. Most impressive is that all of this is an absolute breeze. |
